It’s that time of year again. Always that feeling deep in the bottom of your stomach when September rolls around and the new school term starts…. Ok, I know we’re past that age now, but the new school year always meant new clothes, and we can indulge in a little ‘back to school’ fashion, can’t we?!
This season, satchels are huge. Across the shoulder candy that could carry your exercise books… or at least your lippy and purse! Tan is still a great colour, but new darker shades, especially berry colours are coming into it, and look out for any with etching or fur detailing, both very hot looks for the season. Knee high socks and pigtails are optional!

New Look Ruby Military Satchel
New Look have an online range of ‘Boutique’ bags that are to die for. This one in particular caught my eye. The rich blue colour is gorgeous, and I love the studded detailing on the sides and short handle. It has a leather look finish and a buckle strap on the satchel front.
This bag would look fantastic with a clashing autumnal coloured coat, or any neutral tones. In other words, it would be a big statement piece that would go with anything! Snap it up at £45!
Radley Dora Large Leather Flap Over Shoulder Multiway Bag at House of Fraser
Now this bag has ‘old skool’ satchel written all over it. You can never go wrong with a Radley bag and they have a lot of satchels in their current collection. This one in particular is very distinctive with its etched detail on the front fastener and shoulder strap. It’s a basic looking design, but has been finished to such a high standard, it is worth investing £169 in it. It is a piece that will go with anything in your wardrobe and will last for many years.
Crocodile Lady X Body Bag at Miss Selfridge
This trendy satchel at Miss Selfridge is a great everyday bag. It has a chocolate leather look and crocodile print finish. The bag has an adjustable across body strap and a handle at the top to give multi-functional appeal. I also think it’s a steal at £25!
This is a chic bag and would work well with other brown shades and neutral colours. Add brown leather boots for a finished, coordinated look.
Maggie Satchel at Oasis
If you love a large bag that will hold anything and everything you own, then this is the bag for you. Oasis describe the leather of this bag as ‘buttery soft’. It is multi-functional with a shoulder and across body strap, and has many pockets and zipped compartments. This bag would be great for all occasions and dress down with slouched jeans and chunky knit scarf.
