Tangerine Dream – Essential Pieces For An Orange Wardrobe

By Adeline Keirle

This spring it’s all about bright, bold colours. The hottest of which is tangerine. Last season, everyone was rushing out to grab that little red dress, but this season anything in an orange shade is a must-have.

Tangerine graced the catwalks of Chanel and Dior back in the S/S ’11 shows. Yes it looked fab draped across the super slim models with their beautiful complexions, and no it won’t suit everyone out there. You can however experiment with different pieces and splashes of colour to find something to suit your style and shape.

Here is my guide to the key orange pieces for your wardrobe.

The Dress: Betty Jackson Orange Ponte Shift Dress at Debenhams

This Orange Ponte Shift dress by BLACK, Betty Jackson’s range at Debenhams is just stunning. This vibrant, tangerine number would suit all shapes and sizes. This Orange Ponte shift dress has a feminine ruffle detail down the front and a zip fastening at the back.

Betty Jackson’s designs are affordable, yet fabulous. She has really gone to town on the colour pop trend this season, and her dresses are selling out fast! This orange shift dress is only £55!

Try wearing this with nude block heels for a 70′s feel and a black blazer.

The Top: Terracotta Oversized Blouse at Dorothy Perkins

For an understated flash of orange, this terracotta oversized blouse really fits the bill. Again I chose an item that would suit any size, to show that orange can be right for all.

This gorgeous sheer, oversized blouse from Dorothy Perkins is a lighter shade of orange. It is a bargain at £30 and can be dressed down with skinnies and slouched boots, or tucked into a mini. Accessorise with a large, tan bag and simple gold jewellery.

The Trousers: Paperbag Twill Trousers at New Look

When I first started looking for orange trousers, I thought I would come across some hideous, florescent pieces. It’s true that when you think of orange, you think of a loud, bright colour that should only look right on anyone under 6 years of age!

That was however until I found these. These paperbag twill trousers from New Look come in a peach shade which is just simply gorgeous. The paperbag style is huge for spring, and great for anyone wanting to hide away a post-christmas tummy!

They are only £21.99 and also come in shorts too, so you can take the look right through into summer. Wear then with a crisp, white shirt, another of this season’s must haves!

The Shoe: WIRE orange suede faux snakeskin effect platform wedges at Topshop

Now these WIRE orange suede faux snakeskin effect platform wedges from Topshop are simply gorgeous! For those out there who aren’t confident enough to try orange, then these should be the item you should have in your wardrobe this spring.

These wedges come in an orange, suede, t-bar style and the wedged heel has a beautiful snakeskin effect, another must have this season. These orange shoes will definitely help you stand out from the crowd!

Wear these with some wide-flared jeans and colour-pop top in a contrasting blue! Try and Rock a Mila Kunis from That 70′s Show look with these shoes!

The Bag: Coral leather lock handle bag at Topshop

If you feel that wearing orange is not for you, pick up a bright bag instead such as the Topshop Coral Leather Lock Handle Bag. This is a coral colour, which is always a hit in the summer and would be great as an everyday bag. It is made of leather, has a padded top handle and detachable across body strap. It also has a lovely, gold lock detail clasp.

This fab bag from Topshop will set you back £55, but will go with anything in your wardrobe. Treat it as the new tan bag!

The Accessory: Abstract Tapestry Scarf at New Look

For just a splash of orange, try this gorgeous abstract orange floral print scarf from New Look. Buying a piece like this would be a great way of introducing orange into your wardrobe. An orange scarf can be worn in many ways and can give your outfit a very different look.

Wear this with a bright blue or green top and jeans for a dressed down look, or with your little black dress. Also tie around you bag for a trip to the office.

It’s only £6, so there’s no excuse not to try orange now!
