Pleats dominated our wardrobes all summer with maxi, midi and mini all succumbing to the pleated trend. The light floaty materials used with the pleat made sure we stayed cool all summer. To our sigh of relief the trend has not gone into hiding for the winter months; A/W ’11 sees the pleat take the catwalks by storm once more. Pleats allow the comfort and freedom of feeling like we are still lounging in the park on a summer’s day when we are actually starting to get all wrapped for winter. A/W ’11 brings the pleat forward with darker colours and heavier material. We love pleats and thankfully they are here to stay.
With nights slowly creeping in and autumn securing itself in our minds, it is only natural that it is the darker colours that we look to for comfort. The pleated trend despite using the brightest of shades for summer has toned down for A/W.
Oasis: Pleated Leather Mini Skirt

This pleated leather mini skirt from Oasis is a bit of a stretch at £95.00 but with the combining of both the leather and pleat trends it will be an investment. Teamed with a thick pair of tights, winter boots and a fabulous chunky knit you will be ahead of the fashion pack before everyone else has packed away their gladiator sandals.
Topshop: Pleated Skater Skirt

Pleats have gone wide in this Topshop mini. The Pleated Skater Skirt in light teal colour will brighten up even the dullest of winter days. The wide pleat takes a step away from the summer trend of light and floaty and brings the trend into the new season. This skirt is so versatile and can be teamed with pretty much anything. However a grungy band t-shirt, leather jacket and a chunky winter boots will make sure you do this ‘skater skirt’ justice. At £35.00 you can’t go wrong, and for those milder autumn evenings a cardigan and a pair of brogues will make your skirt stand out from the crowd.
boohoo.com: Faye Pleated Midi Dress

For those of us who are reluctant to leave the summer behind this Faye Pleated Midi Dress has everything that we are looking for. The light colour reminds us of a summer that was, as always, too short and the light chiffon material will trick our brains into thinking that those care-free days are here to stay. Practicality, on the other hand, will win out. This is obviously not the warmest of dresses. Thick opaque tights and a chunky heeled platform will make sure we stay toasty warm and a blazer, gloves and a scarf will make the look classy yet practical. This £20.00 boohoo.com dress will see us through the winter and come out the other end ready for spring/ summer ’12.
Awear: Blue Pleat Scarf

The pleat trend is not only confined to skirts. Luckily the brains at Awear have realised that we want pleats on everything and have come up with this beautiful scarf. At £10.00 the Blue Pleat Scarf is a steal and will keep up warm long after, all the presents have been opened and Auld Lang Syne has been sung.
So when winter finally rears its ugly head we will not have to hide under heavy trousers and huge coats. The pleat trend is here to stay. The fashion world has gone pleat mad and all you have to do is decide which to buy.
