The summer of 2011 sees the biggest wedding since Charles and Di and this year will be inspired by royalty. The question on every fashionista’s lips is which designer will Kate Middleton choose for the biggest even in recent history? As this article goes to press, relatively unknown designer for the Libelula label, Sophie Cranston appears to be the favourite amongst others such as Sarah Burton for McQueen and Alice Temperley. But whichever designer is chosen, there can be no doubt that they will instantly be catapulted to household name status. With the trend of monarchy in mind, pearls, diamonds and elegance is the call of the day with a little bit of sparkle in homage to the original Queen of the Screen, Elizabeth Taylor. On that note, where else would we choose to flaunt our outfit than the glitz and glamour of the South of France, home of Princess Grace of Monaco and playground for the rich and famous? The summer months bring two of the most fabulous calendar events to the Riviera and our outfit is hot enough to cover both the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix.
After working as creative director for the ill fated Rocha’s and three years with Nina Ricci, Olivier Theysken’s Theory capsule collection was applauded at Fashion Week for being contemporary and comfortable, and in the heat of the South of France where the mercury sizzles, comfort is almost as important as style! A £250 Theory Laylie B silk shift dress is the simple but elegant canvas to accentuate the beauty and detailing of the accessories; in keeping with our monarchy theme the ivory teardrop pearl earrings, £95 by Mawi and the Vivienne Westwood Pearly Queen necklace for £282 which boasts Ms Westwood’s famous trademark “orb”. Separate strands of pearls come away from the orb to lay in an almost Peter Pan collar effect, an intricate design that the Theory dress with its simple rounded collar can withstand. The Mawi teardrop pearls are a perfect partner to the Pearly Queen, available in ivory or grey, classical teardrop pearls with a grey / blue crystal effect and like the dress, the simplicity of these earrings highlight the details of the necklace.
Perfect to show off a tanned leg the Bionda Castana Emilia Leather Lace up sandals at £553 are an interesting contrast as a peep toe and backless shoe on a 10cm heel. The gold eyelets and an almost wicker effect make for very interesting and eye catching footwear.
Finished off with the Anya Hindmarch Carker embellished fringed leather bag at £995, this item alone is worthy of the MBE that designer Anya Hindmarch received from our very own Queen in 2009. With soft taupe leather fringing, the flap encrusted with beads and crystals and topped off with an enamelled gold lock closure engraved with the designers initials, and the signature gold bow to the back of the bag it is practical as well as a gorgeous eye catching piece and can be used as a clutch or over the shoulder with a detachable leather strap.

Cool enough for the daytime but just as suitable for evening wear, this look is sophisticated and chic, elegant but practical, cool on the skin but hot to the eye and most importantly, undeniably fit for a queen.
