Catwalk to High Street

We can try our utmost to save those hard earned pennies for splurging on designer goodies. From this season’s Miu Miu glittered peep-toe ankle boots to a Chanel 2.55 luxury leather handbag, we can all dream of becoming the next Alexa Chung, but why aim so high for this bank breaking look, when we have the high street at our fashion disposal? Ladies, arm yourselves with a comfortable (yet style friendly) pair of shoes and this month’s pay packet as you hit the high street hard and fast to catch those catwalk to high street investment pieces!

Androgyny Trend

I bet you have all been asking yourselves recently, when is it cool to look and dress like a boy? Well, the answer is now. Ditch the ditsy prints and take a dollop of courage because you should be raiding your man’s wardrobe this season. Remember when Rihanna wore that Dior suit? Think of this look but with a little less shoulder padded oomph! Crisp, white shirts and black tuxedos dominated the runways for autumn/winter 2011 with the likes of Dolce and Gabbana and Balmain adding pinstripes and sparkly trousers to the mix. A somewhat feminine edge was added to the androgynous look with the addition of silk ties and ornate sequins. One designer to look out for is undoubtedly Stella McCartney. Her autumn/winter collection reflects the years of fashion experience already under her belt and managed to create that masculine yet sexy edge that many designers can’t quite achieve. High street retailers to look out for are Topshop and Zara with more androgynous looks arriving online and in stores by the day. Topshop in particular have based an entire trend entitled ‘New Mod’ to cater for our boy-dressing needs. There was a fashion feel that adopting the androgynous look into your style scope would be a sure set way to create a look that can be both versatile and inexpensive and Offers Boutique are ready to show you how you can achieve the designer look at a more affordable price.

Designer: Stella McCartney: Tux Jacket: £725.00

You can’t afford to not have a black jacket this season. It is a staple piece that truly reflects what the androgynous trend is all about. This Stella McCartney Tux Jacket from Selfridges is a classic example of an item you can fit into your work wardrobe as well as incorporating it into a night time look. A black jacket is signature for completing the tailored look which was key to completing one of the biggest autumn/winter trends. If you want to fully embrace the androgynous trend, take a leap of courage and pair this blazer with a white collared shirt and black high-waisted trousers but make a bold statement with a bright clutch to bring a sense of femininity to the look.

High Street: Topshop: Faux Leather Shawl Collar Tux Blazer: £75.00

Faux Leather Shawl Collar Tux Blazer
This Topshop Faux Leather Collar Tux Blazer adds a new twist to the expensive designer blazer. The addition of the leather collar welcomes a different texture to break the dark colour of the blazer up and creates a richer and more glamorous look. Leather was and always has been an instant fashion hit on many a catwalk (including this autumn/winter) and this Topshop blazer is the perfect way to combine the two trends. Adopt a new stance for the androgynous look and pair this blazer with an eye-popping shift dress to help tone the look down and show off its full potential.

Tweed Trend

The tweed army was out in full force this autumn/winter, ready for fashion battle. Suddenly, the Royals have never seemed so fashionable. The unforgettable Chanel hound’s tooth pattern has worked its way back into trend and has proved that tweed is easily recyclable and now easily accessible. Kate and Wills have once again dominated the headlines but for all the style reasons as the Prince of Wale’s fashion sense has never seemed more on trend. Yves Saint Laurent particularly stood out with their beautiful tweed trench coats and oversized wool tweed sweaters. Their collection left us lusting for winter to arrive so that we could wrap ourselves up in their autumn/winter beauties. One high street shop to look to for your own royal fix of this infectious trend is Oasis with their autumn/winter collection including tweed capes and tweed 60s inspired funnel coats. If you only want a touch of tweed injected into your wardrobe, opt for a simple tweed oversized wool scarf for subtle chic.

Designer: House of Fraser: Hoss Intropia: Tweed Coat with Tie Waist, Grey: £415.00

Try to look past the price-tag on this Hoss Intropia: Tweed Coat with Tie Waist and just look in splendour at this classic tweed number. This wool-blend longline coat has a masculine shape but comes complete with a cinched waist that will enhance curves and also adds a little femininity to the entire shape of the coat. Heads will be turning in the office when you wear this coat with a pencil skirt and on trend tote bag to work.

High Street: John Lewis: Kookai: Lurex Tweed Coat, Black: £189.00

Lurex Tweed Coat- Black- Kookai- John Lewis

We think we’ve brought you the best from the high street bunch when it comes to this Kookai: Lurex Tweed Coat. It instantly reminds us of the Hoss Intropia tweed coat without the heart wrenching price tag. This Kookai version comes with a belt which, like the Hoss Intropia number, will help to show off and give the elusion of a tiny waist. Subtle detailing on the waist line and sleeves keeps us both elegant and warm. Use the help of a trusty pair of knee high boots to complete this perfect winter look.

Jewel Tones Trend

Rich and glamorous jewel tones glistened on the runways for autumn/winter. There weren’t any dull moments due to these bright tones which have carried on from spring/summer. The neon pinks and bright pop colours from the previous months have transformed into affluent shades that need to be worn head to toe and kept minimal. Let the colour do the talking through emerald, sapphire and amethyst maxi dresses and fur jackets. Ralph Lauren added an even greater element of elegance to the jewel tone trend by incorporating silk dresses into his autumn/winter collection. Chanel carried their dog tooth jackets through to another season but in sumptuous shades of emerald green. Use these new colours as a treat and as a new alternative to black for a show stopping look.

Designer: Yoox.com: Robert Cavalli Long Dress: £950.00

Long Dress- Roberto Cavalli- Midnight Blue- Yoox.com
A perfect example of jewel toned splendour is this Robert CavalliLong Dress in midnight blue. This take on the autumn/winter trend fuses glamour and elegance with the added diamante detailing which acts as our accessory for the evening. Let the diamantes add that extra sparkle which a necklace or clutch bag couldn’t achieve with this dress. This Roberto Cavalli dress includes an internal bra which will give that hidden support which you may feel is needed with this strapless dress. The fine pleating on the front of the dress adds a touch of 40s glamour to the look and makes us feel like quite the A-list lady.

High Street: New Look: Gem Detail Maxi Dress: £49.99

Gem Detail Maxi Dress- New Look
For £49.99, the price of this dress is a far cry away from Robert Cavalli’s price tags but we can’t deny that this New Look: Glam Detail Maxi Dress looks a lot more expensive than it actually is and here at Offers Boutique, we think New Look have mastered this look effortlessly. The silver gem and sequin embellishment on the dress is comparable to the detail found on the Roberto Carvalli dress and the overall floaty look adds a bohemian touch to this beautiful New Look number. The V-neck neckline and padded bust shows a tiny hint of cleavage but it still maintains that essence of glamour and sophistication. Let the dress do the talking this time and simply accessorise with a pair of statement earrings to keep the glamour to a minimum.
