Established in 1971 in Somerset, England, luxury lifestyle brand Mulberry are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. To commemorate the occasion, Mulberry are releasing a coffee table book detailing the history of the brand and documenting the last two years of the Mulberry fashion house. 479 pages of colour, luxury, behind the scenes photo’s taken at the Somerset factory and shots taken at shops, shows and after parties, the book – simply titled “Mulberry” – is available at Selfridges for £55.

We couldn’t mention Mulberry without the world famous Alexa bag. A tribute to style icon Alexa Chung, the Fashionista wasn’t the first lady to have a bag named in her honour. Way back in 1981, fate played a part in actress Jane Birkin being seated next to Hermes Chief Executive Jean-Louis Dumas on a plane. Their conversation led to Ms Birkin complaining that she couldn’t find a bag big enough to carry everything that she needed, which led to Hermes designing the famous Birkin bag. Tod’s D bag for Princess Diana, Gucci’s Bardot bag for Bridget and Hermes Kelly bag for Grace are all monuments for historical style icons, but the Mulberry Alexa is the bag of the moment. It was a hard choice deciding between the Mini Alexa, the Alexa and the Oversized Alexa, not to mention the colour palette, but the Oversized Alexa in deep red leather (conker soft buffalo) made the cut. With a plaited clutch handle, a shoulder strap, two-buckle detail and a gold clasp fastening with the classic Mulberry tree engraved, this bag is big enough to hold anything you could ever want to take on your travels. Beautifully lined again with the Mulberry tree interior it’s a classic, which at £925 would also be a future investment.

This season’s Mulberry collection has been inspired by Frances Hodgson Burnett’s book The Secret Garden. Autumnal colours with streaks of vibrant hue, this collection captures the essence of what was one of my favourite children’s stories excellently. The whole Mulberry Spring / Summer collection is worth checking out, and what better way to bring it to life than the Mulberry 40th anniversary book?
