When I think of British Heritage, I think of the great outdoors. And if you’re in anyway British, you understand the woes of the British weather! Lucky for us interested in following all the latest trends, we can stay warm and stylish this year by teaming up wool, tartan, sheepskin and tweed with fur trimmed accessories. Match these with true Brit outerwear brands and you are prepared for the autumn months ahead.
My main purchase would be an all around jacket. Something you can wear for all occasions, and in any weather. Nothing beats a British classic like a Barbour Jacket. Waterproof, comfortable and very stylish. Their timeless Vintage Quilted and June International jackets are beautiful. But what caught my eye was their Belinda Cape. It is made with a wool and cashmere blend and has charming button detailing on the front and sides, which allows you to wear it with or without sleeves. This jacket wouldn’t look out of place in country fields or the city streets. It is well worth the £229 price tag!

Another staple country living item would be the riding boot. These are boots of great comfort, and made of leather. There is a huge range available on the high street that would be fit for any budget. I am an enormous fan of Clarks as their boots are always of top quality and should last many years. I have singled out their Madison Rose black leather boot. The wedge heel is a big hit this season, and the adjustable buckle around the calf is a great little extra. These will be great dressed up or down and the price is fantastic!

For that touch of glamour and sex appeal, I’d look for some beautifully tailored tweed. Karen Millen have an amazing range, and the one that stood out the most was the twisted skirt. A pencil skirt is a traditional shape and is attractive as it accentuates curves. The extra pleated detail on this pencil skirt gives it a more unique look. They have also tailored it into a gorgeous shift dress, so you are now spoilt for choice!

For extra warmth and comfort, a cable knit cardigan or jumper would be perfect. It should give off a ‘home comfort’ feel. This one from Debenhams is a gorgeous shade of green and I love the chunky button detail. It also has a cotton hood and is great value at £38. It’s a shame it’s not available in more colours as I would snap up 2… or 3….

No British wardrobe should be without the great Wellington boot! The ‘wellie’ has been around for centuries, and these days come in an array of colours, patterns and even different lengths. Out of all the boots available, the most lusted after Wellington is by Hunter. Now these are divine. They are comfortable and durable with an excellent reputation. These Violet ones caught my eye. They are stunning and would be great for cheering up glum, rainy days!

To finish off, I can’t forget tartan. A classic British textile that wouldn’t be missing from a Brit designer’s collection! With this textile, you could go all out or just a simple piece to add a splash of colour and texture.
This Vivienne Westwood dress is Brit design at its best. Typically Westwood, the full skirt and layering detail give curves even to those without, and the colour scheme of pink, red and purple shouldn’t work but ends up giving off a dramatic finish. You will definitely turn heads in this piece!

For those of you not wanting such a statement Tartan piece, the best autumn/winter accessory for any year is a scarf. Again you will be able to find every shape, size and colour, but my favourite is this Codello checked scarf from Freemans. Team it with any of the above items, and you will be all wrapped up and ready for the colder months!
