A proper fitting bra is essential for comfort, health and appearance yet 80% of women wear the wrong bra size, follow our guide below to measure your bra size in the comfort of your own home.
Steps to measure your bra size:
As your breasts change throughout the month it is best to measure your bra size one week before your period is due.
Using a soft/dressmaker tape measure, measure around your ribcage under your bust where the bottom of the bra lies. Ensure the tape measure is straight all the way around; this will be easier if you have someone to help or a mirror to check the tape measure around your back. Take the measurement in inches, if the number is even add 4, if it is odd add 5, this number results in your band size.
Once again in inches, measure around the fullest part of your bust.
If the bust measurement is:
The same as your band size your cup size is A
1 inch bigger your cup size is B
2 inches bigger your cup size is C
3 inches bigger your cup size is D and so on
For example, the measurement around your ribcage is 28 inches, adding 4 inches to this you would get a band size of 32 inches, if your bust size was 35 inches your bra size would be 32D.
Signs of an incorrectly fitting bra are:
Shoulder straps digging in – shoulder straps are too tight or bra size is too small
Band riding up at the back – band size is too big
Breasts bulging out of the cups – cup size is too small
The cups are loose and baggy – cup size is too big
