There are so many different types of bras it is sometimes difficult to choose which type is best for your figure if you dont know what they are, this guide gives a quick rundown of all the different types of bras.
Corset- The corset has been around for centuries and was used to give good shape and posture to the wearer underneath the clothes. The corset also gives a good lift and in most cases, a great cleavage.
Convertible- This bra is multifunctional in that the straps are changeable to match what you are wearing. In most cases it can be worn as a halterneck, crossback or you can take the straps right off so they are a good choice when wearing a top that you don’t want to see your bra straps in.
Full cup- The original and probably most popular bra suitable for everyday wear. Full cup is usually worn mainly for the support, especially for those who have a larger bust.
Minimizer- If you do have a large bust they can often get in the way so a minimiser bra is ideal for giving the illusion that you are a few cup sizes smaller than you actually are by shaping the breasts in such a way.
Adhesive- These bras adhere to your breasts and do not have straps or backs. Because of this they offer no support but are worn often with things such as backless or strapless dresses and tops. They are available in disposable, which is a paper type bra or reusable which are usually silicone or bra material backed with a strong adhesive.
Push up- This bra is designed to lift your bust and give you more of a defined shape and cleavage, They will often be gel or water filled to give that extra more comfortable boost.
Balconette- Balcony or balconette bras are half cup, usually underwired bras, which is flattering to most figures as it gives a lift helping to create a great shape to your chest.
Underwired- These bras have a wire structure which lifts the breasts and has a much more rigid support than that of a non wired bra although many people find them uncomfortable. These again are often much more suited to those with a bigger bust.
T-Shirt- Designed for wear under t-shirts, these bras don’t have raised seams but they do have padded cups to hide nipples and give a smooth effect so it is hardly visible under a tight t-shirt.
Plunge/demi cup- These types of bras are suitable to wear under a top that has a plunging or low neckline. They cover only half of the bust so the top of the cup is not visible and are often made to create a lift look although they offer less support than a full cup bra.
Sports- For those who are active, a sports bra is a must in ensuring full support and comfort and is made of a stretchy lighter material than that of normal bras.
Padded- These, unlike push up bras, although padded do not tend to be used to create a lifted effect. Padded bras are usually used to give the effect of having a larger bust when worn under clothes giving you a fuller more curvy shape.
